Exhibition on Revolutionary Art Opens at National Museum of China

 

Since the 1950s, as part of nationally coordinated initiatives, the NMC has led a series of major art programs devoted to China's revolutionary history, creating an enduring body of works of both artistic and historical significance. These works are treasures in the art history of the People's Republic of China and form a cornerstone of the NMC's revolutionary heritage collection.

 

On the historic monument forged through more than a century of struggle by the Communist Party of China (CPC), no words carry greater weight than "the people." The exhibition features 20 classic paintings and 33 sculptures from the NMC collection. It presents the works in chronological order, depicting the shared fate of the CPC and the people. Together, the works create a sweeping historical panorama of the CPC leading the nation in overcoming hardship, securing revolutionary victory, and building the People's Republic of China.

 

The exhibition has two defining features. Firstly, most of the artworks were created in the early years of the People's Republic of China through NMC-led major, nationally coordinated art programs on revolutionary history. These works are among the most significant and enduring artworks in the art history of the People's Republic of China. As an important component of the NMC's collection of revolutionary cultural artifacts, they hold immense historical value. Secondly, through vivid artistic expression, the exhibition recounts the history of revolution and struggle shared by the CPC and the people. It invites visitors to experience the CPC's revolutionary journey to found a new China for the people and to revisit those momentous years marked by passion and courage.
