On November 17, 2025, the exhibition From Beijing to Moscow, A Dialog of Culture—Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Art from the 14th to the 19th Century from the National Museum of China jointly organized by the National Museum of China and the Tretyakov Gallery, opened at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia.

As a cornerstone project of the "China-Russia Years of Culture" and celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia, this exhibition carefully selects 84 precious calligraphy and painting works and artifacts from the collection of the National Museum of China, covering three major categories: court treasures of the Ming and Qing dynasties (14th–19th century), scholars' handwriting, and folk masterpieces. Through exhibition design, including restoring the real scenes used in ancient calligraphy and painting, the exhibition presents to Russian audiences the complete life cycle of Chinese calligraphy and painting art, from brush and ink techniques to creative spirit.

All the exhibits are being displayed in Russia for the first time, including many important works such as Portrait of Emperor Kangxi Reading, Xu Yang's Emperor Qianlong's Southern Inspection Tour (Volume 8), Shen Zhou's Peach Blossom Study, and Wen Zhengming's Snow Scene. The exhibition also breaks through the traditional narrative framework of art history, taking "people" as the core, restoring the brushstrokes and ink of calligraphy and painting to a vivid language through which Chinese people perceive the world and express themselves, presenting the creation, collection and use of calligraphy and painting by various social strata in China, including the royal family, scholars and the common people.

This exhibition is not only an artistic feast but also a dialogue between Chinese and Russian civilizations, building a bridge for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture and art. The exhibition is open to the public from November 19, 2025 in Halls 49-54 on the first floor of the main building of the Tretyakov Gallery in Russia and will last until February 23, 2026.
