From June 26 to July 9, the Spirits of Times Flourishing in Hong Kong exhibition was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. During the exhibition, a team of museum guides sent by the Social Education Department of the National Museum of China (NMC) completed the interpretation for the exhibition and the training of museum guides in Hong Kong.
There were more than 310 pictures and nearly a hundred pieces (sets) of physical objects on exhibition. All these exhibits presented the history of China’s scientific and technological development and told stories of more than 160 scientists. In addition, spirits of times were incorporated into the exhibits such as the spirits of “Two Bombs and One Satellite”, westward academic relocation, China’s manned space program, combating the COVID-19 epidemic, and lunar exploration.
After arrival in Hong Kong, the team members devoted themselves to the exhibition preparatory work immediately. On June 26 when the exhibition opened, the team finished the interpretation task for key guests such as the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, heads of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R., and representatives of the National Team of Space Scientists. During the preparation, the team also conducted training and assessment for staff from Hong Kong Guided Tour Company in an attempt to ensure adequate staff after the opening of the exhibition. Throughout the exhibition, the team fulfilled a total of 108 batches of official reception and public interpretation, which stimulated a strong sense of national pride and cultural self-confidence within the people of Hong Kong.
The trip to Hong Kong featured a tight schedule, challenging tasks, and high difficulty, alongside the changes in epidemic prevention and control situation. Despite all that, the team carried forward the spirit of solidarity, hard work, and overcoming difficulties, and presented to the people from all walks of life in Hong Kong and exhibition organizers the professionalism and good image of NMC as a world-class museum, which earned widespread acclaim.
