The second edition of the General Catalogue of the Collections of the National Museum of China has recently been launched online, with the information of another 480 thousand pieces/sets of objects its collection available for the public. So far, the NMC has made public information of over 780 thousand pieces/sets of objects, more than half of its entire collection.
Compared with the first edition of the General Catalogue of the Collections launched online in 2018, the new edition has made public a greater quantity of objects and covered a wider range of categories, including?stone ware, jade ware, pottery, bronze ware, iron ware, metal ware, bone horns, bricks and tiles, stone carvings, lacquer wood, silk fabrics, seals, calligraphy and painting, badges, miscellaneous articles, inscriptions, documents, national cultural relics, stamps, artworks and souvenirs, etc., as well as various kinds of modern collections on history and art, ancient books, rare books and periodicals, books and magazines from the era of the Republic of China, and special collections of books.
In recent years, the NMC upholds the philosophy of "opening the door to the public” and keeps increasing its efforts to serve the public, and updates the General Catalogue of the Collections based on in-depth research, so as to provide the public with more and more convenient channels to learn about the NMC collections, and better meet the public’s diversified needs for participation in the research and appreciation of cultural heritage. In the future, the General Catalogue of the Collections of the NMC will continue to updates, making public more information about the collection.
