At the end of 2018, the Institute for Restoration of Painting, Calligraphy and Literature was formed through the merger of the former Painting and Calligraphy Restoration Office and Literature Reproduction Office, responsible for the conservation and restoration of the calligraphy, painting and literature, the restoration and reproduction of the modern literature, and the rubbing of the patterns from the artifacts in the NMC collection.
The Institute for Restoration of Painting, Calligraphy and Literature combines the traditional techniques of art and the concept of modern cultural relics conservation, and undertakes the restoration of a large number of calligraphic works, paintings and cultural relics. It has completed the restoration of such paintings as Zhong Lv Talks about the Way and Side Tower on the permanent exhibition of “Ancient China”, and has restored 10-plus large paintings for the General Office of the State Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Over the years, the NMC has used traditional lithography, typographic printing, mimeographing, offset printing, resin plate printing, manual copying, digital printing and other technical means to replicate modern literature and cultural relics. It has produced 215 replicas for 110 types of cultural relics on the permanent exhibition of the “Road of Rejuvenation”, and provides exhibit reproduction support for its fellow museums.
