When the American journalist Edgar Snow was taking photographs of Mao Zedong in the period from July to October 1936 in the Revolutionary Area at Bao’an (present-day Zhidan County), he offered his own Red Army eight-cornered cap to Mao Zedong as Mao was not wearing one himself. Snow later took this cap back to the States. In September 1975, Snow’s widow, Lois Wheeler Snow, was invited to visit China, and presented this cap as a gift from the whole family to China. (Yao Jie)
