The cornerstone has Mao Zedong's inscription "The memorial of groundbreaking ceremony of the First Automotive Works". When Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai visited the Soviet Union at the beginning of 1950, they agreed to construct a production base for medium-sized truck with the assistance of the Soviet Union. In the spring of 1951, the central government decided to set up the manufacturer in Changchun. On July 15, 1953, the manufacturer was officially under construction and the cornerstone with Mao Zedong's inscription was implanted into the black soil. In 1956, the construction of the First Automotive Works was completed. It was the first automobile production base in China with an annual production capacity of 30,000 Jiefang truck weighing 4 tons each. This cornerstone was once displayed in the exhibition room near the Gate 1 of the manufacturer. On November 21, 1987, the cornerstone was handed over by the First Automotive Works.
