The Incomplete Book of Records Compiled by the Beiting Protectorate only has ten pages left. It was collected by Mr. Luo Zhenyu first and then was bought by Mr. Tang Lan in Haiwang Village. In the end of the book, there was a postscript written by Mr. Tang Lan: All contents of this book except those on the last page have been compiled into the Incomplete Valuable Books of West-Frontiers, the Pleasure and Knowledge have been compiled into the Supplement to Books of the West Desert. The first page has an incomplete record of the birth places of officials during the Kaiyuan Reign (713-741)in Tang dynasty. Mr. Luo Zhenyu wrote on the book: The Incomplete Records of Officials’ Birth Places Compiled by the Beiting Protectorate of Tang Dynasty might have been unearthed in Turpan, Xinjiang, instead of in Dunhuang Caves. It is a valuable source to study the history and geography of Northwest China.
