On November 6, 2020, the Discussions of the Academic Forum on the Construction of Smart Museum sponsored by NMC was held ceremoniously in Beijing. The conference invited the experts in the construction of smart museum and senior workers in museology. The academic forum was conducted in the way of special report, thematic speech and dialogue between experts around the themes like the construction of smart museum, management of collection data in the era of Big Data, and development of standards. They made explorations of the new cutting-edge technologies and listened to the opinions from the experts on an extensive range of issues to promote the construction of the smart museum and the theoretical research ability in the smart museum.

In the unit of special reports, Li Huabiao, director of the Data Management and Analysis Center of NMC, delivered a report titled the Research and Practice of Big Data of “Smart NMC”. He pointed out that smart museum is a new model in operation and maintenance of museums centred on the acquisition and application of data, so data are the key to the construction of the smart museum.“Smart NMC” stresses on the data management system of the whole chain of the museum consisting of “collection, storage, management and application”. He shared with those present the research and practice of “Smart NMC” in areas like a high-efficient collection of original data, sharing of safe transmission and intelligent integrated application. At present, the construction of “Smart NMC” is well underway at all fronts according to the technological route of thorough perception, extensive interconnection, integrated intelligence, independent study and iteration-based upgrading at NMC.

The experts reached a consensus that there is a reasonable theme contained in the reports of the forum. It covers a broad scope of contents, concerning macroscopic thinking on future development in the application of information technology and scenarios for application. It conducted a comprehensive exploration of the opportunities and challenges met by musicology in the aspects like digitization of cultural relics, key technologies and development of standards, thus broadening the thinking in research and clarifying major demands for the experts in computer technology and museum research, and personnel of enterprises. This forum has promoted the theoretical research and practice in the construction of smart museum from the macro theory to the micro issues concerning art, technology, theory and practice.
