The dreadful pandemic of COVID-19 is still spreading across the world. In this context, the National Museum of China (NMC) officially launched the English WeChat account “NationalMuseumOfChina”, the first among more than 5,000 Chinese museums, with the purpose of enabling global audiences to appreciate the charm of Chinese civilization at home.

“NationalMuseumOfChina” is targeted at Chinese people at home and abroad, foreign friends, as well as people who are interested in the English content. It is dedicated to launching more popular columns with authentic translation and presenting the NMC’s rich collections, excellent exhibitions, and constantly improved services to global audiences in diversified forms including texts, pictures, videos and audios. It aims to provide a more timely and wonderful manner, thus enhancing international communication and influence of Chinese civilization. For example, the “A Journey Through Time” series, in combination with the NMC’s unique permanent exhibition “Ancient China”, invites audiences both at home and abroad to explore and appreciate the splendor of Chinese civilization that has lasted for more than 5,000 years.

Since its opening on July 31, 2020, a total of 52 articles in 13 issues have been released, and the first article has welcomed over2,000 views.

It is worth mentioning that during the event “Treasure Hunt Relay: Global Museum Director’s Choice” with the theme of “Hand in Hand: Museum and Me” held in September initiated by the NMC, “National Museum Of China” leveraged its language advantage and coordinated with the NMC’s English website as well as the event English webpage for a full coverage. As to the follow-up publicity and reports, H5 technology was adopted and English e-postcards of various participating museums were also displayed in the articles, in order to systematically exhibit the treasures of the 16 directors’ choices from six continents and increase the events’ influence across the globe.

In the future, “National Museum Of China” will continue focusing on the NMC’s permanent exhibitions, special exhibitions, temporary exhibitions as well as the cultural connotations of the collections. Relying on the NMC’s profound historical and cultural deposits, it will improve its original columns such as“A Journey Through Time” to present more wonderful cultural knowledge to audiences. In addition, it will promote international communication to show the elegant demeanor of the NMC as China’s leading cultural parlor, tell China’s stories and convey China’s voice effectively, and contribute to building the NMC into a world-class museum, enhancing the cultural confidence of the Chinese nation, and building a strong socialist culture in China.
