This exhibition features nearly 120 pieces/sets of selected Tang cultural heritage unearthed from Shaanxi over the years, which are the material evidence best manifesting the heyday of the Tang Dynasty. The exhibits, from such diverse aspects as culture, life, art, Sino-foreign communication and religious belief, all-roundly reflect the resplendence of the Tang Dynasty. The extremely exquisite articles from the cellar storage of Hejia Village, the treasures from the Underground Palace of Famen Temple, the murals displaying the Tang fashions and customs, the epigraphs with related records, the tri-color pottery figurines demonstrating foreign styles and Han customs, and the religious artifacts manifesting co-existence of multiple cultures are all marvelous. They not only embody valuable memories of that period of time, but become an integral part of the nation’s culture genes. In the midst of changes and tumults in the 21st century, we look back upon the Tang Dynasty dating back over 1,000 years, and we seem to see the heroic soldiers in fierce fighting and feel their valiant spirit in defending their land, see the meticulous and industrious craftsmen, see the pleasant scenery with beauties strolling by the riverside in Chang’an, and feel the elation of having people from all around to pay homage to the emperor and feel the inclusiveness of the Tang Dynasty in assimilating all exotic customs. As thus we gain a better understanding about why the Tang Dynasty enjoyed such glory.
