Xu Hongfei is a renowned contemporary sculptor. He observes the life of common people closely from the perspective of a commoner. He skillfully built humor into his sculptures to unfold scenes of life in a witty and interesting way loved by the public. His sculpture series “Chubby Women” features the iconic pieces based on real life. Their plumbness and nimbleness, joyful and optimistic looks, and honest smiley faces together with the surrounding environment struck a chord with the audience. Smart, motivated, optimistic and open-minded, they brought joy, ease, hope and motivation for the viewers. Such positive attitude toward life and true feelings which ooze from his works constitute the most commendable thing about of Xu Hongfei’s sculpture. People feel and experience the beauty of life through his works of art.

Themed on “joy”, the exhibition used the images of relaxed and jolly chubby women as the vehicle, displayed the people’s great life through art, and sang praises of the new life in the new era. The exhibition is presented in six parts—Making Life a Melody, Lifelike Zodiac Signs, Extraordinary Men and Women, Peals of Laughter, Deep Love Between Mother and Son, and Full of Beans. It displays 99 sculptures by Xu Hongfei, including 16 large ones and 83 small ones, giving a full picture of the sculptor’s thoughts about art and creation.
