The American president, Ronald W. Reagan, made an official state visit to China between 26 April and 1 May 1984, the first since the establishment of diplomatic relations between America and China in 1979. On 28 April the Chairman of the Central Advisory Committee and Head of the Central Military Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, Deng Xiaoping, received him in the Great Hall of the People. Reagan presented Deng Xiaoping with gifts, including this crystal glass eagle. It is a bald eagle, the national emblem of the United States. (Ji Ruxun)
