This marvelous artifact can be regarded as the pinnacle of bronze art in the late Shang period. The shape of this zun is a standing owl, balanced with a tail and two feet, arranged both functionally and aesthetically. After the technical exploration of the pre-Shang period, the bronze casting of the late Shang witnessed a huge leap forward in both smelting and pattern-making techniques. (By Huang Yi)
