On January 14, Valéry Freland, executive director of the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage in Conflict Areas (ALIPH), visited the National Museum of China (NMC). NMC Director Wang Chunfa welcomed Valéry Freland's visit. The two sides discussed future cooperation possibilities in cultural heritage protection and other fields.

Established in 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland, the ALIPH is an international organization dedicated to the protection of cultural heritage in conflict areas. As China's first "cultural property safe haven," the NMC has joined the "international refuge network for endangered cultural property" initiated by the ALIPH. A member of ALIPH's Academic Committee, Mr. Wang Chunfa went to France for an Academic Committee meeting in October 2018.

He appreciated the standardized procedures and efficient operation of the ALIPH. He said that the NMC would like to play an active role in protecting cultural heritage in conflict areas and make more contributions to the inheritance and development of the world's cultural heritage. In the meantime, he also hoped to deepen exchanges and collaboration in multiple fields such as heritage protection and cultural property restoration.

Mr. Valéry Freland thanked China and the NMC for the support to the ALIPH. He said that as an international organization created only a few years ago, the ALIPH needs more vitality, and that China's participation enabled it to play a bigger role. The ALIPH would like to seek more pragmatic collaborations with the NMC in cultural heritage protection.

Mr. Valéry Freland paid a visit to the "Ancient China" exhibition. He spoke highly of NMC' wide range of collections and the security, equipment and management of its cultural relics storage.
